Cinema One Originals 2013

On its 9th year, Cinema One Originals showcases unique and unpredictable 15 full length stories. Along with that, the opening night on November 10 at Trinoma will feature the digitally restored Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon (1976) of the late National Artist Eddie Romero.

Here’s the complete schedule for the upcoming Cinema One Originals for three movie houses:

TRAILERS

BLUE BUSTAMANTE – Finding himself unemployed in Japan, a Filipino migrant worker becomes a double for a superhero character on a TV show.

SHIFT – The unconventional relationship between an idealistic call center slacker and her pragmatic gay senior colleague.

BUKAS NA LANG SAPAGKAT GABI NA – Three related occurrences caused by the tragic accidents of a Filipino-Spanish priest.

ISLANDS – A spacecraft lands within the geography of a fictional film, blurring reality and reel fiction.

ISKALAWAGS – Reflections on a man’s coming-of-age during his teenage years in a small town.

RIDDLES OF MY HOMECOMING – In Mindanao, there is a traditional belief that when a person dies his soul goes back to his homeland.

ALAMAT NI CHINA DOLL – The life of a high school girl on an idyllic island takes a drastic turn before graduation after an article is published.

SITIO – A family from the city returns to the province in search of a simpler life but instead finds problems and setbacks.

La Union Surf Breakers

It was one of those long weekends during October when we decided to be surf breakers! This 3 (or is it 2?) years in the making La Union trip finally happened last October 26. In 2010, my friend, Baldo, invited us to their home in La Union and we agreed since the accommodation won’t be a problem. But there were hindrances during the first and second attempt of carrying our feet to the place of angry waves and of course, cutie surfer boys (with happy keme). The La Union surf break started on October 24 and ended on the 27th which is Sunday.

We left Manila on Friday night (25th) without any hassles on buying the the tickets. We bought it in an advance thinking that a lot of people will leave the city for the long weekend, for the surf break itself and we’re traveling with three kids (really cute kids). 11 adults and three kids. We chose the deluxe bus of Partas Trans Co (despite my protest because of accident-stories courtesy of our host). How’s that for a 7-hour comfy bus ride? 🙂

Almost two hours of the travel time was spent on the congested streets of Metro Manila. You know the picture of Metro Manila during Fridays and it’s horrible. We were able to reach San Juan, La Union at 4:30AM. Ang lamig! A 10-minute trike ride was next and placed myself at the back of the driver. Sobrang lamig ng madaling araw sa kanila. My stomach was aching because of that.

The suggested activities were bumming at beach for two days (Sea Park Beach Resort and the surfing area), listening to Soul Surf concert outside the wall (the tickets were pricey!), videoke, going to Pugo Adventure (which we didn’t pursue) and food trip.

We were lucky enough that the attic is really spacious. Sarap magpagulong-gulong. But there ARE creepy stories that we didn’t dare to hear more of it. Some of us were scared. Kailangan may kasama pang umakyat ‘pag may kukunin sa attic. Everyone’s enjoying their time on the garage ‘pag ganyan na eksena.

The Videoke Day

Supposedly, we’ll visit the surf school specially the one that’s being managed by Luke Landrigan but… the videoke machine killed the idea. On the other hand, I enjoyed that day (without seeing Luke and other happy kemes of surfer boys) cause I was able to hear Onchie’s version of Reasons by Earth, Wind and Fire and Song for the Suspect by Franco. Thanks to Baldo for singing some of our favorite music from Parokya ni Edgar and Eheads. To Elren for singing The Scientist by Coldplay. To Buboy na sa wakas kumanta rin and he smoothly sang Never Let Her Slip Away.To Joselito for being a total performer. To Mira for being the tanggera and singer at the same time. To Roemart for singing Yellow of Coldplay before he left for Manila on Sunday noon. To Karen for being our Diva. And to Marj for her ever favorite Borderline of Madonna.

Muchas Gracias is located at P. Burgos cor. Zandueta St., San Fernando City, La Union. Don’t miss this resto. 🙂

This La Union trip has been my most relaxing 3-day vacation so far. I had the chance to work on the kitchen despite the lack of culinary skills. Nakipagbuno pa ‘ko sa pagprito ng bangus. Washing the dishes was my favorite activity during our stay in Baldo’s house while hearing the singing talent of my friends. Surfing and hanging out in the beach on our second day would be great but I’m contented with talking and laughing out with these people. Next time na ‘yong surfing.

We are the surf breakers who did not surf at all. 🙂
