Untitled: Drama and Music

I think I’m back writing some shit about anything pero I’m not sure if kaya kong i-sustain ba. A lot of things happened between my last post in 2015 and today. More than two years, eh? May masaya, malungkot, nakakainis, nakakatakot; name it and I’m sure meron akong mahuhugot. But one thing is certain, I am grateful for everything I’ve been through. Those things made me stronger, more understanding and open-minded. But most importantly, I had the chance to choose to be quite content with everything. Not in the sense na kuntento na lang habambuhay but limiting myself sa mga bagay na hindi kailangan in the long run, whether people, things, or situations.

New Year’s Sound

Aloha! I know, I know, I haven’t updated this blog yet. But here I am now, making an impromptu “blog” without really thinking of a nice topic to talk about. I have lame excuses like “I’m busy with work” or “The holidays took my time” or the classic “Tinatamad ako” but of course, I still want to write something here from time to time.

Well, maybe I’m giving more attention to the other blog these days. The photo above is a screenshot of my first mixtape for 2015 and I’m more than glad to share lovely music that I discovered last year. Allow me to brag that this particular mixtape for Manillenials gained a good number for reposts and retweets. Not only those people who likes music but the legit and thriving OPM musicians/artists of today.

I featured a lot of hip and urban Filipino sounds, earning a title of The New Sound of OPM. I totally enjoyed hunting new OPM songs and listened to more than 100 songs in a day. I didn’t feel any exhaustion because they’re all good for my ears. Some songs were already part of my playlist, but I need to listen to them again to justify my goal of sharing the best possible sounds of our new local musicians. I can’t seem to get enough of it, actually.

For continuous listening, I created an 8tracks playlist so you won’t need to click on the play button again and again.

Anyway, let me share some of my top favorites on the playlist:

1. Oh, Flamingo – June

2. Peryodiko – Kung Alam Mo Lang (Feat. Buddy Zabala x Morse)

3. Flying Ipis – Lundagin Mo Beybi

4. The Strange Creatures – I Feel Like I’m On Drugs

5. Lustbass – XXX

6. Jireh Calo – Stay

7. Kate Torralba – Drunk on Your Love

8. Kala – Libot

9. Wilderness – Pasaway

10. Chocolate Grass – Testify

11. Mic Manalo – Halika

12. Tandems ’91 – At Last

Happy listening! ❤

P.S. I’ll update my movie archive by the end of January.

Sugarfree Feels

It’s been two weeks since I downloaded Sugarfree’s album Live with The Manila Symphony Orchestra. Two weeks ago, I was in the mood (as always) to listen to some OPM melodramatic slash good vibes tunes like Monobloc and Dianetic by Pupil. After the fulfillment I had with Pupil’s music, I shifted to more drama songs from Sugarfree. Sugarfree’s music is always on my playlist – whatever my mood is – and merely hearing the band’s name makes me want to listen to them right away.

No, Sugarfree’s music is not always for the heartbroken. In fact, I still listen to their music even if I’m too happy. There’s a magic to Ebe’s words and lines plus the melody that band induce to those beautifully written words. If you’re a Sugarfree fan, I’m sure you know how their music can be so fuckin’ depressing most of the time. This band will always make sure to make you feel the PAIN. The inevitable pain we’ve been pushing away.

Nakakaiyak sa ganda,” the line I said to someone. When I heard the whole album, I can’t help but shed a tear or three (maybe). Ang daming feels! It made you feel those unwanted feelings and started to go back from something you want to get rid of.

Well, I’m just in the mood of drowning myself with memories and sentiments. So, listen to the songs, ok? Cheers! 🙂

Sugarfree + orchestra = Overdose of beautiful words and calming melodies.

Here’s the track list of the album.

1. Overture (2:34)
2. Prom (4:48)
3. Hari Ng Sablay (5:18)
4. Kwentuhan (5:04)
5. Kwarto (6:08)
6. Telepono (5:19)
7. Kung Ayaw Mo Na Sa Akin (4:06)
8. Still Fighting It (4:45)
9. Tulog Na (6:58)
10. Mariposa (5:18)
11. Huling Gabi (5:05)
12. Unang Araw (4:09)
13. Wag Ka Nang Umiyak (5:35)
14. Kailan Ka Ba? (5:19)
15. Ikaw Pala (6:15)
16. Burnout (4:18)
17. Makita Kang Muli (4:54)
18. Batang-Bata Ka Pa (5:45)
19. Dear Kuya (6:10)

Most of my favorite tracks were included. So, I’ll share some of the lines that I religiously love:

If you want to listen to the album (I hope so), you can download it from 1 Happy Place. Ah, the power of internet, I’m in love with it.

So, if you’re feeling down, Sugarfree’s music is just right for the injury. Hehe. 😀

The Unavoidable (Wedding) Playlist

At first, I really don’t want to tell the whole world that I actually have a wedding playlist. It’s tough for me to blatantly show to online people that I curated some of my favorite songs into a playlist which can only be used on that BIG DAY. But hell no, I decided to share it anyway. I always believe that music should be shared and be appreciated. I can be a little selfish but what the heck, it’s music and I’m not the only person who thought that Hey-This-Song-Is-Good-For-My-Wedding. In fact, when I blogged about it in Manillenials and shared it on Facebook, I instantly got answers like, “May parehas/pareho tayo“. You get what I mean, don’t you? One of my friends is really protective of her BIG DAY playlist and I really understand her. But I just did the opposite and gone public. I just want people to make happy. 🙂 Ang chos nung sagot ko!

You know what’s more tough curating all these good shit? It’s when you don’t have anyone who could appreciate these songs because you thought about them while happily and carefully choosing the best eargasm music. Not just anyone but someone you think is important and can be crazy as hell like you. What the fuck am I blabbering about? Shit. Sorry. Sugarfree’s saddest lines are creeping in since Holy Tuesday. That’s the magic of music – it makes you high, sane and insane at the same time. 😀

Yes, I’m sorry. But you know, you can always skip the blabbering part and check the list of songs. It has 50 songs and I’m still in the middle of adding more. There’s a lot of songs I want in the playlist. My friends and I are joking that instead of doing the BIG DAY, why not start a wedding music festival just like any various music festival we know these days (Coachella, 7107 Int’l Music Festival, Summer Siren). Sounds good, right?

Anyway, check the initial list of songs and you can hear them at my 8tracks profile:

For the last three songs, I’m serious about it. 😛

Thanks for listening! 🙂

I don’t know if I have the right to claim to be a Dubista or a fan of Urbandub. Kahit isang gig kasi wala akong napuntahan. There were several reasons and I don’t want to discuss it here. 😀 But I have been listening to their music since 2005, start of my college life then. I first fell in love with their 3rd album (Embrace, 2005) before giving my love as well to the 2nd album (Influence, 2003).

Since last week, both Influence and Embrace starred again on my playlist. On the loop ika nga. It seems that I won’t be tire listening to them. For 2 consecutive days, I played at least 25 songs from Urbandub at the office. I think my officemates can totally relate (Hello, Deshang!) to it.

So anyway, here’s the complete list of the 2 albums:

1. Fallen On Deaf Ears
2. Under Crisis
3. Soul Searching
4. Runaway
5. Versus
6. Gone
7. Sailing
8. Quiet Poetic
9. A New Tattoo
10. Lover Among Ruins

EMBRACE. 2005.

1. An Interlude Between Closeness
2. Alert The Armory
3. Frailty
4. First of Summer
5. When Heroes Die
6. Reveal The Remedy
7. The Arsonist
8. Endless, A Silent Whisper
9. Safety In Number
9. A City of Sleeping Hearts
10. The End of Something

I think I am more attach with Influence nowadays. I just love the album at wala ka namang itatapon. Wish I could get an original copy of Urbandub’s 5 albums (Birth, 2001Influence, 2003 | Embrace, 2005Under Southern Lights, 2007The Apparition, 2009). Yes, as early as now, I’ll remind myself to include this on my wishlist.
