Untitled: Drama and Music

I think I’m back writing some shit about anything pero I’m not sure if kaya kong i-sustain ba. A lot of things happened between my last post in 2015 and today. More than two years, eh? May masaya, malungkot, nakakainis, nakakatakot; name it and I’m sure meron akong mahuhugot. But one thing is certain, I am grateful for everything I’ve been through. Those things made me stronger, more understanding and open-minded. But most importantly, I had the chance to choose to be quite content with everything. Not in the sense na kuntento na lang habambuhay but limiting myself sa mga bagay na hindi kailangan in the long run, whether people, things, or situations.

Ang pa-vague ng post, no? Arte ko! Hahaha! The truth is, na-miss ko rin naman mag-sulat dito sa personal web space ko nang kahit ano lang. Kaso dahil sa trabaho ko na puro sulat, nawalan ako ng amor to write here. Parang nanawa ako for some reason. Hopefully, this blog piece will be the start.

I’ve been listening to the past few months/years. Hindi ko ugali mag-share ng music na gusto ko because it’s too personal and selfish ako but I am feeling generous now. Hahahaha!

Listen to them and enjoy! (Or sana magustuhan nyo rin)

1. Dag – You Can Lick It (If You Try)

When I first heard this, naisip ko agad na pang-romansa espesyal ito (IYKWIM). Hihi. I mean, bihira ang mga puting funk band kasi and they definitely pulled off an amazing set of songs. Karamihan kasi ng funk bands eh mga Black Americans (shit, ano bang politically correct term para dito?) and they belong to the 70’s era. This song may not be the funk-ish song you wanna hear but a good start to like the band. Check “Lovely Jane” and “You Make Me Feel.”

2. Gorillaz – Andromeda

From their latest album “Humanz,” this song is definitely my favorite. Pang-outerspace funky vibe. You can check the story of this song.

3. Assembly Generals – Kontrabida

The politically motivated OPM song. Who says that this kind of music theme won’t have an upbeat tune? Plus, Deng Garcia (Flying Ipis) is here!

4. Apartel – Sala Sa Init

First reason: Ely Biendia! Hindi ko alam if bored lang si Ely kaya may banda sya ulit but take note, the genre is different from Eheads or even to Pupil. The band’s album (“Inner Play”) is a mix of jazz, soul, and funk. Medyo solid rin naman. This is my favorite sa album.

5. Radiohead – Daydreaming

Better listen to this when you’re travelling or on the move, lalo sa gabi. The vibe feels surreal, I feel lonely listening to this. Also, maganda rin ang Burn the Witch from their album new album “A Moon Shaped Pool.”

6. Jamiroquai – Music of the Mind

From the “Emergency on Planet Earth” album, I think this is the most free-form jazz song that I know from “Jamiroquai.” Ang solid ng kagandahan nito! Ganda ng bassline pa. Actually, I had a hard time picking what song from them to include here, dami ko kasing gusto. Hahaha.

7. John Mayer – Rosie

The classic Mayer’s kilig factor. And as usual, litaw na litaw ang guitar skills nya.

8. Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart

My joy when listening to this upbeat but downer song. One of my favorite songs from the New Wave era/80s.

9. Lou Reed – Perfect Day

When I found this on my playlist (dami kong songs eh), can’t help but make it on loop. Rumors said it’s about heroin or some kind of drug. But I don’t care, it’s still beautiful.

10. Tarsius – Deathless Gods

Love love this OPM track. Mas solid siguro ‘to pag live.

11. Justin Timberlake & EWF – Let’s Groove In Our Suits & Ties

So in love with this mash-up!

12. Mayer Hawthorne – Strange Arrangement

I first fell in love with this Neo Soul musician when I heard “Game Over” together with “Cool Uncle” (Jack Splash and underrated smooth jazz kingpin Bobby Caldwell). Next I heard from Hawthorne was “Breakfast in Bed” and “Cosmic Love.” The rest is history.

13. Tropical Depression – Mahal Kita

Lovely reggae love song! Ganda ng live version. ❤

This post may not compensate sa lahat ng months na na-miss ko but hopefully, this will be a good start. Until next time? 🙂

Appeal VS Looks

This is just an initial assessment and based on what I am seeing now.

I recently met someone and this someone actually belongs to a group of three people whom I started a good friendship (hopefully my instinct is right) with for the past couple of weeks and one of them is really a dear friend. The person involved in this entry looks normal and nothing is really noticeable except for the goatee, which is an inch longer (now) compared to normal ones of typical Pinoys. His ritual is cut the goatee in New Year and let it grow for six months or so, until it reaches his chest part. The goatee makes him appealing (in all possible ways) and authoritative, I guess.

This someone is not really handsome, not even the cute word can be associated with him. He even claimed that he already accepted the fact that’s he’s not one of those men who would actually look like decent. Jokingly, he said that he can be mistaken as a robber. Mukhang hindi gagawa ng mabuti. I retorted with a laugh when I read that message because this man really knows how to make fun of himself and he’s totally cool with it. Zero fucks were given to people who actually judged him based on his looks.

What’s more interesting about this man is that he’s loaded with real-talk humor and carefully laid green jokes (which I don’t mind, really) for his companions. He’s the kind of man who would rather chill out everyday than talk about life’s excess baggage. He still talks about problems but doesn’t really give a serious shit. And I want to quote him, “Pain is temporary” and he does know what kind of pieces of advice he would give to a problematic person. He may be harsh most of the time (words, point of reference, comparison), but he definitely contributes something valuable to the other party. I’ve seen him giving reasonable and sound advice to people who need it.

This is how I see him and this impression is really a good one. He may not be a handsome guy, but he definitely carries himself with confidence full of humor and substance, making him MORE APPEALING than any other men I’ve known. And definitely yes, his goatee sets one notch higher of becoming an appealing guy.

P.S. Nakakagigil ‘yong goatee nya! Ang sarap hilahin. Hahahaha! 😀

That Thing Called Tadhana Fever

I miss you, blog! I have been so busy with work, some hanging out thingy, and movies!

Hahaha!

That Thing Called Tadhana

That Thing Called Tadhana FB Status 1

That Thing Called Tadhana FB Status 2

Suporta lokal! 🙂

Sometimes, First Times Are the Best

I don’t know have any proper introduction on this but to let you know, it’s about some informal first time events in my work-bahay routine.

1. You know what’s the best thing about being part of a blog site (has more than 1k Facebook Likes. Hehe) and has its own domain and hosting? You get an invitation for advanced movie screening! Yes dear readers (kung meron man), the other blog where I contribute my formal musings already received two advanced movie screening/mini event.

First, it was Barber’s Tales. However, we were not able to attend ’cause it’s located in QC and most of us (we’re 11 writers in that blog) are working in Makati and the event was 3PM. I was so eager to attend because the plot is promising and Eugene Domingo won a Best Actress in Tokyo International Film Festival. Oh well, tapos na ‘yun.

Second invite was from Futurentertainment Inc. It was the advanced screening of Russian horror film Viy: Spirit of Evil. We immediately said yes to the invitation since it will be held in Greenbelt Cinema.

Jane and I attended the event since we’re the only ones who were eager to see it. Sino kami para humindi sa ganitong invite? Anyway, when we were there, we felt intimidated since it seems the other bloggers and media writers are all veterans to this kind of shit and they already know each other! Para kaming others talaga dun though we had a small talk with one of the bloggers naman. Buti na lang talaga, dalawa kaming nagpunta.

We’re a bit hesitant if we will bring our own food. We thought that they won’t serve any, but of course mali kami ng inisip. There was a mini buffet from Sumo Sam and we enjoyed the food. 😀 Plus, they also served popcorn and sodas during the movie.

My most favorite part was when we discovered that the given envelope to us containing the press kit had a GC from Sumo Sam worth P1000!

From then on, Jane and I promised to attend these gatherings if our schedules will permit us. Free movie and free food and other perks are the best!

2. Watching a film with someone you just met that day? Yes! I’ve done that last night. This friend of mine (2nd time namin ulit magsama/magkita since summer) tagged along this lady he just met that day too! I don’t want to put so much details regarding this ’cause I didn’t ask their permission. I just want to tell you, guys, that I enjoyed their company talking about heartbreaks, the movie, some dating shit, a little bit of Philippine law, and others. I didn’t feel any awkward moments with the lady. I think she’s awesome and intelligent. 🙂

3. It was my first time to watch a mind-fucking foreign movie in big screen! I’ve seen other mind fucking movies like Fight Club, Inception, and Irreversible but just on my desktop/laptop. While watching, I can’t stop thinking about what will happen on the characters or if this one will have a solid ending. This one is worth spending your money with. I’m hooked.

Have you seen Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike? Go, check it out. Hahaha. I seriously recommend this one.
